Day 1 we traveled through TN and VA and arrived in the late afternoon at the Embassy Suites near Dulles airport, due to the rain we decided to relax in the hotel and a near by restaurant, took advantage of the pool/hot tub and watched a movie in the room, The Golden Compass.
Day 2 we got an early start and headed to the Smithsonian. The museums we took visited today were The Air and Space Museum, National Museum of the American Indian and National Natural History Museum. We ate lunch at the American Indian museum, and had a spread of exotic Indian foods from all over the America's, such as black bean and chicken tamales, chicken mixture in a taco shell for the boys, Rob had a smoked trout sandwich with a cup of clam chowder and Dree had a crispy pork meal with amaretto sauce. We had enough food from our restaurant last night left over we warmed those up in the microwave back at the hotel for dinner.
Day 3 we got an even earlier start so we could try to park in the Smithsonian parking, our legs were so tired by now...the morning was spent in the National Museum of Art, and in their cafe is where we had lunch. In the afternoon we walked along the reflecting pool and up to Lincoln's Memorial where the boys got to stand next to the legend! and read his speech. After that we had just enough time to head up to the National Zoological Museum (ie: the Zoo) and see the famous Pandas and other animals.
Day 4 we checked out of our hotel and drove about an hour and half over to my high school friend Dawn, and her family had shown up to also meet and greet with us. A nice day was spent there and we drove about half way home and stayed in Buckannon , WV that night at a Hampton Inn.
Day 5, the home stretch, we headed home yah! Home sweet home.
